DANI’S GIANT OVERLY LONG COLIN MORGAN BRISBANE SUPANOVA Q+A SUMMARY THING. AND THAT’S A HUGELY LONG TITLE RIGHT THERE. YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN WARNED, THIS THING IS BIG. 

So, the Q and A was brilliant, and here’s what I can remember from the moments when I wasn’t staring in awe at the glorious beauty that is Colin Morgan’s face. Those moments were, unfortunately, rather few.

• He said that at the end of the day if Merlin doesn’t like the dragon’s advice he just does his own thing because Merlin’s the dragonlord and he’s got the power. 
• One girl got up and asked Truth or Dare, to which he replied dare and got dared to do ten sit-ups. After which he proceeded to lie on his back on the stage, stick his knees in the air and do ten very enthusiastic sit-ups while we all counted. 
• …His pants don’t look nearly as baggy when his legs are in the air. Just saying.
• One of the funniest moments on set, he said, was when Bradley’s horse sat down in the lake during one of the scenes and Colin was just sitting there laughing.

A signing experience with Colin Morgan: "I told him that episode 4x4 wasn’t due to screen in Australia till that night but that we’d already downloaded and watched it weeks ago it (he seemed quite amused by that).  During 4x4 there was a scene in the council chambers where Arthur and Merlin were rolling around on the floor (I’m sure it’s marked indelibly in the minds of all M/A, or B/C, shippers!).   DS (at my prompting as I thought it would be weird coming from me!) asked whether he and Bradley had had to rehearse it a lot or not.  Colin replied that they didn’t, and that they just went for it!  He said he even did a handstand at one point but it was cut from the scene. IT doesn't get any better than this for Queensland fans of the fantasy TV series Merlin.

They have rejoiced with the news a fifth season has been commissioned; and that there is talk of a feature film spin-off; but now they are beside themselves with word that the star of the show will be live among them in Brisbane next month.

Colin Morgan who plays Merlin is heading Down Under for pop-culture expo Supanova which runs from November 4 to 6 at the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds.

"This will be my very first time to Australia," the Northern Ireland-raised actor told couriermail.com.au this week. "So all doors are open as to what's best to do there - hopefully I'll be living it up!

"Time permitting I hope to get down to the (Gold) Coast; that would be brilliant."

Merlin's magic hasn't lost its power

It will only be a short trip before he heads off to the US for promotional work ahead of preparing for filming of season five of Merlin which has become a worldwide hit. (Season four is currently showing on Sunday nights on Ten).

Show co-creators Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps recently revealed a Merlin feature film was "in discussions", but Morgan is as much in the dark about it as fans.

My absolute favorite scene from the 3rd episode [Series4] "The Wicked Day," directed by Alice Troughton

Merlin sits slumped as if asleep, but his eyes are open.  He sits completely still as he watches Arthur’s shadow fully form on the sunlit wall after the door is opened.  Merlin makes no move to look at him until Arthur says his name.

            It was Director Alice Troughton & Cinematographer Dale McCready's idea to have Merlin keep his eyes open, but look asleep to Arthur, & not move till Arthur says his name. In much of Arthurian Legend, Arthur is associated with Apollo the Sun God. It was important to Alice Troughton that Arthur represent the Apollonian Arthur in this scene. So her & Dale McCready worked together to make that apparent with lighting, timing, Colin Morgan (Merlin) & Bradley James (Arthur). She says that on the whole, it was "a read team effort," & they were pleased with the outcome. It was also important to convey, not just through Arthur's line, that "it's a new day." In more ways than one, this new day brings a new king, & Arthur finally takes his rightful place in 'Destiny,' previously described in "Merlin" as a new world called "Albion." Though Albion may not have formed quite yet, this is a major marker on the path to getting there.
            In my own interpretation of this scene, the fact that Merlin's eyes are open where Arthur can not see them represents the knowledge Merlin has About Arthur's destiny which Arthur is unaware of. Merlin can see Arthur's figure come through the door by means of Arthur's shadow, but Arthur doesn't know Merlin is awake. I feel that the shadow to Merlin represents all that Arthur is, and can be; now that Uther is dead. Merlin doesn't know if he will see the Arthur he hopes for when he turns to look at him. He lingers on the shadow not only because he feels guilty for his part in Uther's death and doesn't want to face Arthur, but also because the shadow seems to represent what Merlin sees in Arthur, a figure in destiny more important than Arthur himself may even know. The grand entrance of the shadow projects a simple and familiar silhouette, yet expresses the nexus of Arthur, the sun, and all they represent. Turning to look at Arthur was thus doubly significant since Merlin seemed to have to tear himself away from the auspicious shadow at the same time it was hard to face Arthur; you can feel the super-charged dichotomy in his physiology [nice work Colin Morgan]. The new day brings with it a new Arthur and a new beginning; Arthur watches Merlin for a moment after exiting a room which represents the past.  He does not have to search at all for what the future will hold, for Merlin is already there in front of him, guiding him into it. "Merlin," and Merlin finally, apprehensively tuns to face Arthur; the future of Camelot has begun. Alice Troughton said that it was actually Colin Morgan who first spotted the shadow on the wall, I'm glad he did because it seems it was an integral part of what her and Dale McCready were trying to accomplish! They did it!

Merlin is understandably drawn in by Borden's news and promises to help him. But just who is this enigmatic stranger and, more importantly, what does he really want with the egg?

James Callis, Lindsay Duncan for 'Merlin' roles

James Callis and Lindsay Duncan have signed up for guest roles on Merlin.

The pair will both appear in the fantasy drama's upcoming fourth series, it was recently confirmed at a special BFI screening.

Duncan will play the character of Queen Annis in the fourth episode. The actress has previously appeared in Doctor Who special 'The Waters of Mars', HBO and BBC co-production Rome and Tim Burton's 2010 film version of Alice in Wonderland.

Battlestar Galactica's Callis will feature in the fifth episode as Borden, an old pupil of Gaius (Richard Wilson).

His past credits include recurring roles on FlashForward and Syfy's recently-axed drama Eureka.

Whitechapel's Phil Davis and former Spooks star Gemma Jones have also signed up for guest roles, while Nathaniel Parker will join the regular cast as Agravaine, the uncle of Arthur (Bradley James).

Merlin co-creators Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy recently revealed that a film version of the hit series is in the works.

Oddly enough, James Callis has also played “Merlin” in “Merlin & the Book of Beasts” which incidentally I DO NOT recommend, Merlin fans. 

Oddly enough again, he has also played a man named Dr. Gaius Baltar in “Battle Star Galactica” which I am a fan of and DO recommend esp. if you love Sci-fi.
