Charming chap Merlin has been fatally spooked by one of the wraith-like Dorocha, and as Lancelot races him back to Camelot, it falls to the remaining knights to lift the curse from the land. To get to the Isle of the Blessed they enter a network of tunnels, and the story goes a bit Princess Bride when they encounter rodents of unusual size. Back at the castle, Morgana’s new co-conspirator Agravaine (Nathaniel Parker) is wheedling his way into Gwen’s confidence, but to what end?
The concluding instalment of this two-parter is more like Merlin of old, with bags of monsters, magic and chivalric derring-do. It’s boosted not only by the return of a fiery friend, but also a poignant little twist.
